How your shipping cost is calculated
Every courier prices a parcel on the same handful of inputs. Knowing them makes the quote above easy to read — and easy to bring down.
Actual weight
What the parcel weighs on the scale, including its box and padding. We reweigh everything at the warehouse, so the figure you are charged is the real one.
Volumetric weight
Space costs money on a plane. Couriers work out length x width x height in centimetres, divided by 5000, and charge on whichever is greater — that figure or the actual weight.
Destination
Couriers group countries into zones. Neighbouring European countries sit in the cheapest zones; long-haul destinations such as Australia or Canada cost more for the same box.
Service level
Express services fly direct and arrive in a few days. Economy services travel by road or consolidated air freight and cost noticeably less if you are not in a hurry.
Where it ships from
Our UK, US and German warehouses each have their own courier rates. For EU shoppers the German warehouse also avoids customs charges entirely.
What is inside
Insurance is priced on the declared value, and restricted goods such as liquids or batteries can only travel on certain services, which narrows your options.

How much does it cost to ship a parcel with Atvido?

Is the shipping calculator free to use?
Yes. You do not need an account, and there is no charge for a quote. You only pay when you actually send a parcel.
What is volumetric weight?
Couriers charge for the space a parcel takes up as well as what it weighs. Volumetric weight is length x width x height in centimetres divided by 5000. If that figure is higher than the actual weight, it is the one you pay for — which is why a big box of light goods can cost more than a small heavy one.
Are customs duties included in the price?
No. The calculator shows the shipping cost. Import duty and VAT are charged separately by the customs authority in your country. Use our duty calculator to estimate those before you buy.
Can I get a cheaper price by combining parcels?
Usually yes. Shipping four small parcels separately costs far more than one consolidated parcel, because you pay a base rate each time. We combine your orders and remove surplus packaging, which saves up to 80% on the total.
Why is the price different from the courier website?
We buy at business volume rates and pass those on, so our prices are usually lower than the courier list price for the same service.
